JUBA, May 22 (Xinhua) -- South Sudanese President Salva Kiir on Monday launched the long-awaited national dialogue initiative that seeks to reconcile and unite the East African nation torn apart by more than three years of civil war.

The national dialogue announced in December 2016 by President Salva Kiir was initially slated to kick off in March, but was delayed due to financial constraints.

Speaking during the oath taking ceremony of the dialogue's steering committee, Kiir said the dialogue will start immediately with those ready to take up the initiative while the steering committee continue to engage with groups opposed to the dialogue.

The South Sudanese leader said the initiative is meant to open up avenues to discuss political Jaire Alexander Youth Jersey , social and economic problems facing South Sudanese, and also offer a platform for reconciliation and healing in the war-torn East African country.

Kiir said the launch of the dialogue is a milestone towards nation building and stability of the country, calling on the critics of the opponents of the dialogue to support the committee and make the process more inclusive.

The event was attended by Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, heads of diplomatic missions and senior South Sudanese government officials.
